6 March, 2013 Associate Professor Martin Hohmann-Marriott gave an invited talk at the joint meeting of the Norwegian Societies for Microbiology and Biochemistry at the University of Oslo.
Binod Gautam joins the lab
February 19, 2013 Binod Gautam has started working the lab today Binod will be working on evaluating variants of the XylS/Pm expression system in different bacterial systems.
Gunvor Røkke joins the lab
February 18, 2013 Gunvor Røkke has started working the lab today Gunvor will work on lipid metabolism and photosynthesis in the heterokont model alga Nannochloropsis.
First platereading
Two centrifuge tubes (50 ml) where filled with media and algaecells (Nannochloropsis CCMP 1779) that had been growing for 3 days. The tubes where then centrifuged at 6000 rpm for 5 minutes, and some of the supernatant was taken away. This was done to concentrate the cells approximately 8-folds. The solution was then transferred to a 24-well plate to make…
Working with the spectrophotometer.
We took cells from agar plates and diluted them with water. The spectra was then obtained using a spectrophotometer (infinite M200PRO). The data was saved at the lab computer as SpecScan1.xlsx. The cuvettes containing Synne6803 (1:10) and Nanno1779 (1:20) was put in a refridgerator for later color comparison, as the color they had showed a good absorption level for measurements.…
Kristin Forfang joins the lab
January 14, 2013 Kristin Forfang, the has joined the lab today. She is the first student in the PhotoSynLab! Kristin will work on changes in the composition of photosynthetic lipids in Synechocystis exposed to anaerobic conditions. She will in particular investigate the role of quinones in photosynthetic electron transport in the absence of oxygen.
